All the money in the world cannot buy good taste.
If you’ve ever watched any episode of The Real Housewives, you know this to be true.
Taste is something you cultivate throughout your life. This means everyone’s taste should vary based on their own lived experiences and personal affinities.
And the only way to really “buy” it would be to hire a good stylist. But it still wouldn’t be yours.
Taste is certainly subjective.
But if you follow every trend, buy all of your clothes from one store, or dress *exactly* like your favorite influencers, I can tell you that you don’t have any.
Psychology of Trends
Trends, in fashion and otherwise, have always been a thing. Wanting to “fit in” is ingrained in us as a survival technique.
Social belonging, especially early in life, is quite literally a means of survival.
As we get older, though, and ascend into a higher consciousness, “fitting in” is something we need to unlearn with a quickness.
You’re not in seventh grade anymore. You don’t need the new It item in order to be accepted or to be loved.
Now, I am not vilifying trends or the trend cycle. But in order to be a mindful participant, you need to be able to choose trends that actually resonate with your personal style and your life.
