I wouldn’t take life advice from her, but style? Style, she knows.

I think the first time I watched the entire Sex and the City series was right after college. I had seen random eps before and had somehow watched the first movie, but the series wasn’t a staple for me.

When I finally watched it all the way through, I immediately understood the hype: gorgeous clothing, complicated dating scenarios, and complex (but still likable!) characters all in one place.

I liked the series a lot, but I couldn’t really relate to the characters or storylines that much at 23.

Watching it seven-ish years later made it so much more applicable and, therefore, enjoyable. I gained a new appreciation for the styling and an understanding of the back-and-forth romantic relationships, but what really stood out most to me was the friendships.

The older you get the more difficult it sometimes seems to make lasting connections and maintain those you’ve already established. The show may seem like it’s only about dating and sex and new shoes, but it’s really about the meaningful connections between women.

Sex and the City is truly for the girls, and Carrie Bradshaw, though flawed and human, is still one of the most iconic characters ever written, and ever styled.
