Happy Halloween, betches!
This is one of my absolute favorite holidays. I love any reason to costume and celebrate. I also live for scary movies, a seasonal cocktail (or mocktail!), and treats upon treats.
And there’s something about the spooky season that just makes me want to SHOP! Am I alone?
Since fall is really starting to kick off with the cooler temps we’re seeing, I wanted to include some easy styling tips that will help your fall fits not feel flat.
I’ve also shared some sinfully good finds on this fine holiday!
Let’s get it!
Fall Style Tricks
Embrace dickeys -
This is something I often forget even exists.
Talk about retro!
Sometimes you don’t need the bulk of an extra layer underneath your jacket or coat, but you still want the look.
Enter: dickeys!
For the uninitiated, dickeys are essentially faux shirts you can wear under your other tops to give the appearance of a layering moment.
I’ve recently become enamored with Veronica Beard’s offerings. (They have an entire line of various dickeys, which is so genius!)
This one and this one seem quite versatile. I love that they instantly give a 90s layering vibe, which is always the goal. When in doubt, I always recommend you channel the 90s in your fall style. It’s an easy way to feel pulled together and cool.
This is a similar concept if you need something thicker but don’t want to go full fur vest or jacket under a coat.
They add so much to a look without the extra fabric. Dickeys are perfect if you have any texture aversions or overheat easily!
Create shape with a belted blazer or a flannel -
People are scared to belt blazers for some reason! I almost never see anyone do this in person, but it’s such an easy, chic styling hack that creates shape and adds visual interest.
This works especially well with oversized blazers. If it’s something you feel like you’re swimming in, but you can’t make it to the tailor, this is a simple solution. It’s also great for pieces that you want styling options for! Maybe one day, you do want a more oversized fit, but the next time you wear your blazer, a cinched fit works best.
A flannel can do something similar. This hack is less about accentuating your waist, though, and more about just adding some shape to the outfit. You can wear a flannel around your shoulders, as you would a sweater. Or you can add it to your waist. Sure, you can tie it over your shirt for a grungy effect. But I also love the look of a longer top with a flannel tied underneath (so around your waist, like over your jeans, but under your top). This adds a cool layered effect that gives your outfit more dimension.
Invest in ponchos and capes -
I predict these will both really trend this fall and winter. And I am all for it. It’s such a nice departure from your typical jackets and coats.
I think I only own one or two of each, but I am seriously determined to add more. And when I say “invest,” that doesn’t mean they have to be expensive. They’re so easy to find secondhand. I’ve already found several on The Real Real that are calling my name. Snag them before I do!
I am really attracted to this vibe of cape because it’s giving Little Red Riding Hood (in a good way! I promise!). And I love that you can pretty much just throw them over anything. It would look stunning over a turtleneck with jeans and boots. Chic!!!
If you’re going the poncho route, I love love love this and this. I would style both over the long-sleeve tees I always recommend (any would do, though!). They’re perfect for elevating an otherwise boring fall fit. Any time you can add an interesting shape or texture, I say go for it!
Fashion Treats
These shoes have me almost breathless. I can’t believe how gorgeous they are. The red! The toe shape! The leather! I know they’re an investment, and I know we’ve all moved on from open-toe shoes right now, but I literally *had* to share these with you. I’ll never be over them.
I am not always a huge Zara advocate, but I have to admit they’ve got a few pieces right now that have caught my attention... This top is perfection. The arm shape is so good, y’all. It will work well to any Christmas party. I would love to style it within an all-black look with a red lip and festive clutch. Delish!
I also absolutely love this top. I am so into an icy mermaid vibe, so this has my name written all over it. The price is right, and I think it would be bananas to any NYE party. Wear it sheer as shown or over a slinky spaghetti strap tank with ripped jeans and a high heel. Drooling.
And I am a sucker for a metallic knit. Again, I think this would kill for NYE. Style up with split hem pants and a silver or gold heel. Or rock at home on the couch as the ball drops wearing these. I would def size up in both pieces!
My last Zara find for this post is this gorgina crepe cape. Can you even? It’s literally oozing chic. I’m loving it styled with an enormous clutch, denim, and a leather jacket. Instant cool factor!
This choker stopped my scroll in the best way. I have a necklace by this brand that I adore, so I can fully recommend them to you. It’s truly stunning, and it would make an excellent gift. If you’re gifting it to yourself, you’ll be able to style it all holiday season with a sweater and jeans and with all of your cocktail attire.
The Simon Miller holiday collection is absolutely bonkers. I am in awe of every single piece, but I need this entire look (especially the skirt!!) immediately. I don’t recommend outfit copying, but I may have to break my own rule because I love this so much. You’ll get hella wear out of it this season, and it will definitely sell out.
I get asked about my Carhartt allll the time, and this one is very similar but in an even cuter color. I love throwing them on over everything from sweats to trousers. This color is going to be huge this year. I am obsessed!
As always, I hope you love!
I shared this on IG but wanted to share here, too. I updated my Amazon with all new fall finds. They’re so good.
Next week, we’re diving deeper into gift guides and holiday dressing. All posts the next couple of weeks will be paid, so make sure you subscribe to get access to the full archive!
Enjoy your Halloween! Have fun, and be safe!!! I love you!
